The clear, glassy blue, God’s Child Pond

A pond in Akan Mashu National Park. It is called God’s Child Pond because it is said to be connected to Lake Mashu, which used to be called Kamui To (Lake of God), originating from the nearby outer rim of the mountain. The water temperature is maintained at around 8°C throughout the four seasons and is ice-free in winter. The pond is characterised by its blue water, which is due to its high transparency and moderate depth of up to around 5 m, and the volcanic ash piled up there that reflects sunlight. The Osholokoma is a habitat of this species.
