Kamuiwakka, where hot spring waterfalls flow.

Shiretoko Io-zan, an active volcano located in the middle of the Shiretoko Peninsula, is the source of this mountain stream waterfall. The name means ‘Kamui (god) and Wakka (water)’ in the Ainu language. As the water contains sulphur, it is interpreted as meaning ‘magical water’ where no living creatures can live. Entry is currently restricted to the Ichinotaki Waterfall. The sulphuric acid springs that flow into the area create a unique landscape of rock formations.
