日本列島の最北端、宗谷岬から昇る朝日
島嶼部を除き、日本人にとって通常訪れる事の出来る日本列島最北端の地。沖合の約43km地点にはロシアの実効支配地域である樺太（サハリン）、西能登呂岬（クリリオン岬）が有る。岬以外にも周辺一帯は自然公園として整備されており、特に後背地に有る宗谷丘陵、白い貝殻の道が知られる。

The northernmost point in the Japanese archipelago that can normally be visited by Japanese people, except on the islands. Approximately 43 km offshore is Sakhalin, Russia’s effective dominion over Sakhalin, and Cape Nishinotoro (Cape Krilion). In addition to the cape, the surrounding area has been developed as a nature park, and is particularly well known for the Soya Hills in the hinterland and the White Shell Road.
