Tomraushi, the deepest landscape of the Daisetsuzan

The mountain is located in the Daisetsuzan National Park, and its name is derived from the Ainu word “tumra ushi” (a place where a type of green algae grows in colonies). The mountain is also home to a number of alpine flora such as the Japanese garden, Tomuraushi Garden, and Koganegahara, as well as ponds and lakes scattered across the high moorland and rock gardens formed on the lava plateau, allowing visitors to observe the primordial earth in its original state. The Ainu name for the surrounding area, Kamuimintara (Garden of the Gods), is true to its name.
