Symbol of the forest, Ezo Owl

The Ezo owl is a species of owl that inhabits the forests of Hokkaido. It is found mainly in mountain forests, wetlands and parks, and is often found in areas close to people’s homes. Nocturnal, rarely active during the day, spending most of their time in tree hollows. A resident bird that does not change its habitat depending on the season. Therefore, it is a wild animal that can be observed throughout the year. Known in Ainu as kunnerek kamui (the god of night calls) and isosanke kamui (the god of prey).
