馬追丘陵から見る夕景、ぶどう畑

北海道の南西部、夕張山地の南西端にある丘陵地帯。アイヌ語で「ハマナスの実があるところ」を意味する「マウ・オ・イ」を語源とする。一帯は長さ45kmにわたる標高150～200mのなだらかな丘陵で、その緩斜面では畑作と酪農が盛んに行われている。丘上から見る石狩平野と、肥沃な農業地帯が美しい。

A hilly area in south-west Hokkaido, at the south-west end of the Yubari Mountains. The name is derived from the Ainu word mau-o-i, meaning ‘the place where hamanas fruits are’. The area is 45 km long and consists of gentle hills at an altitude of 150-200 m. On its gentle slopes, field farming and dairy farming are flourishing. The Ishikari Plain and fertile agricultural land seen from the hills are beautiful.
